User Interface Design: The Daily Intelligencer Admin Screens

I worked with the website developer and the department's graphic artist to develop the administration screens for this web application. We had to figure out how the content providers would input information, organize the webpages, and administer the enrolled students.
I also created HTML & CSS templates for each of the different pages, cleaned up and edited photographs, directed the layout and placement of content on the published pages, guided the needed functionality and user actions of the website, and provided technical support for students.

User Interface Design: LASSO

Created: February 2006
Project: LASSO (aka LASDS [Liberal Arts Survey Development Space])
Client/Employer: LAITS
This a mockup of the layout of an administration screen for the developer's use. I'd recommend placement and layout of navigation, buttons, actions, and functionality as well as creating the actual graphics for the buttons and icons. (Overall look and feel and banner was created by the department's graphic artist.) I also created an HTML & CSS template for the developer to use.

Texas Politics Stand-Alone Features

Created: over an extended period from 2004 to 2007
Project: Texas Politics
Client/Employer: LAITS
I worked with the department's designer to create a few standardized formats of small 1-10 page "features" for inclusion in the Texas Politics website. I then was in charge of coding all the templates and actual features throughout my entire employ at LAITS. I probably coded over 100 individual webpages for this project.

Web Design: TIGER

This is my favorite web design that I created while working at LAITS. I got a rough mockup from our graphic designer and was able to substantially alter the design to make a completely new layout. The graphic designer oversaw student artists create the background graphics found on the site, and I worked with a project manager to develop the site in Movable Type.

The Daily Intelligencer Templates

Created: 2006
Project: The Daily Intelligencer
Client/Employer: LAITS
Skills: CSS/HTML coding, standards compliance, site/CMS architecture, layout
The Daily Intelligencer is a unique departmental site, intended to walk students through a variety of quizzes and writing assignments. Over the summer of 2006, a variety of students, designers, programmers, and content providers worked furiously to launch the site for use in fall 2006. My role was to develop 5-6 HTML/CSS templates to provide to the programmer, and to be in constant communication with both the designer and programmer as to layout and user interface issues. I also become the default "tech support" throughout the fall semester.

American Politics Website

American Politics is a class resource website that I intended from its inception to be a test case and showcase for departmental accessibility compliance. I coded the website from scratch, taking exacting care to follow the section 508 guidelines as well as to adhere to the latest in web/semantic markup standards; I also met with the Accessibility Institute at UT to ensure that the site was truly accessible.
Since I worked on the project, it has been integrated with the DASe project, spearheaded by Peter Keane at LAITS. He wadapted the original site and code to generate templates with which he and the content providers could manage the site more efficiently.
